Just now you were appointed special
ambassador of "Verbundnetz der Wärme" ("Network of Warmth").
What part do you play as special ambassador for the initiative of honorary posts? Sven Fischer: I feel my job as a special ambassador is to draw attention on all these unmentioned people who do honorary work for a long period of their lives. I want to thank them and encourage them to go on. Your support of the Network is part of your great social commitment. Where else do you bear social responsibility in your role as a top sportsman? Sven Fischer: I have been involved in an initiative "Help for Children with Cancer", I am member of "Sportsmen for Donation of an Organ" and the foundation "Help for Addicted Children". Such institutions for handicapped persons, kindergardens and schools take absolute priority in the flood of requests for autograph sessions and rounds of talks. No request coming from social institutions, hostels or sports clubs, for a donation in kind or an auction for charity remained unattended up to now. You do not only compete against the best of the world regularly, but you also train with those who are disadvantaged in our society as you did at this summer's sports camp with mentally handicapped people in Oberhof. Why are you tempted to do such meetings? Sven Fischer: Since my childhood I know a paraplectic former cyclist through my parents, who masters his life at his wonderful wife's side. This was a determinating experience for me. I really enjoy my meetings with handicapped sportsmen very much. I am very gateful that I could grow up healthy and sucessful. And I hand over a part of this joy to people who weren't as lucky as I was. You won almost everything one can in biathlon. What are the aims and dreams of Sven Fischer as a sportsman? Sven Fischer: I want to keep healthy as long as possible to be able to compete with the world's best biathletes in fair competitions. I still dream about being sucessful as a sportsman and about celebrating these achievements with my family and friends afterwards. |
